I had no physicians in my family, except for an uncle I admired and loved. At first I thought I would like be a psychiatrist, but at the very beggining, participating in an reserch group in familiar therapy I realized that it was not what I really wanted. But until now I use the knowledge I received in that first semestres! I mention this because I know many medical students are anxious about choosing an speciallity early in medical school. If you feel comfortable within this idea, ok, but keep in mind that these early years of intense learning will give you solid bases for your entire carreer, and if you keep it too narrow, consequences in the future can emerge, like gaps and holes in medical knowledge that can limit you in the future. So in my opinion, you can enjoy the best the years in University, making friends and learning everything you can.
